The E-Z Hatch® Attic Access Door is an air-tight, high-performance, energy-efficient attic access scuttle door. It is R-50 or R-80, triple-gasketed, pre-finished, and fits in a 22 ½” x 30 ½” rough opening. It is an energy-efficient alternative to energy wasting attic pull-down ladders and exceeds all Code requirements. Deluxe version is provided with 4-point lock and handles, keyed alike or different. It is a less expensive solution and a higher performance alternative to a pull-down ladder and the Code required insulated and gasketed stair cover. Exceeds all IRC, IECC, Energy Star, etc. Code Requirements. Due to the recent IRC and IECC Code changes it may be difficult for Architects, Builders, Contractors, Remodelers, etc. to select an attic access solution for residential use that meets the new Building and Energy Codes:

2009 IECC Section 402.2.3 and 2009 IRC Section N1102.2.3 and 2012, 2015 IECC Section R402.2.4 reads: "Access hatches and doors. Access doors from conditioned spaces to unconditioned spaces (e.g., attics and crawl spaces) shall be weatherstripped and insulated to a level equivalent to the insulation on the surrounding surfaces." Energy Star Version 3 requirements conform with the 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018 IECC and 2009, 2012, 2015, 2018 IRC. The International Green Construction Code conforms to the IECC.

These Code requirements mean the attic access pull down ladder or access hatch must now be insulated to the same level as the rest of the attic (minimum R-30).

The E-Z Hatch® is your attic access solution that meets these new Codes. It is a high-performance attic access hatch that is an alternative to energy-wasting pulldown ladders. It provides air-sealed attic access that helps to increase your blower door test results.

It is important to note that R-5, R-10 attic ladders Do Not Meet Code - they must be insulated to a minimum of R-30.

E-Z Hatch® attic access doors are provided with non-compressible insulation and comply with Guidelines prepared by the U.S. Department of Energy's (DOE) Weatherization Assistance Program (WAP) and the National Renewable Energy Laboratory (NREL) for use in Energy Efficiency Programs.

The E-Z Hatch® is an energy-efficient alternative to pull down attic ladders. Builders, remodelers, homeowners prefer the E-Z Hatch®. It is far more energy-efficient and less expensive than a pulldown ladder + insulated cover. Easy attic access - use a sturdy step ladder for attic entry.

Please note: Allow 2 ft clearance above the ceiling where the E-Z Hatch® will be installed. The door is 12" tall and needs a total of 2 ft clearance so the roof joists will not block the door.

Note: When mechanical equipment is installed in attic a larger door is often required. We will be introducing a larger door with a 24x30 in. clear opening - please email us with your size requirements, and check back for more info and availability.

The lightweight door weighs 10 pounds, and lifts up and out of the way for easy attic access.
No hinges - The door is designed to prevent interference with the roof joists.

Triple pre-installed weatherstrip gaskets ensure an air tight seal. Gasketing provided where the trim meets the ceiling, where the face of the door meets the trim, and where the top of the door meets the frame.

The lightweight door opens with little effort, allowing easy entry into your attic space. The finished face on the door fits tightly into the weatherstrip on the trim when the door closes.

Perfect for use with any type of attic insulation, including blown-in insulation. The 12 in. tall wood frame acts as an insulation dam, which holds the insulation back from the opening, and takes the mess out of getting into your attic space.

Sized to fit either between roof trusses 24" on-center, or between ceiling joists 16" o.c. with minimal carpentry required (cut one joist and add headers).

Whether in new construction or retrofit, the unit can be installed in minutes with only a utility knife and a screwdriver.
