The Small Fireplace Plug is very easy to install or remove.
First, take a flashlight and carefully inspect the firebox up to and including the damper. Insure that there are no sharp or jagged pieces of mortar, metal or protruding screws etc. If you find any of these impediments they should be removed or hammered flat so there is no danger of tearing the Fireplace Plug urethane plug.
The metal (round) model of The Fireplace Plug is shaped to curl snugly around a damper handle; the two 'tails' wrap around the handle and provide a good seal.
Use a brush or scraper to remove excess soot to ensure a cleaner seal.
Remove the product from the package and assemble the prop device following the enclosed diagram. Blow a few breaths of air into the inflation tube to give the Fireplace Plug some shape. Use the handle of the prop to position the Fireplace Plug in the firebox just below the damper.
Slide the locking wedge to set the proper height for the prop to rest on the floor of your fireplace.
Breath air into the inflation tube until the Fireplace Plug seals the firebox.
The Fireplace Plug is easily removed to enjoy a fire. Turn the inflation tube valve to let enough air out of the Fireplace Plug to break the seal. Using the prop handle remove the deflated plug and place it into a large plastic garbage bag for clean storage. When the fireplace has completely cooled you can safely reinsert the product.
